Grand Pacific Open 2007

Come play chess on an island in the Pacific! It doesn’t get better than this. Escape the harsh Canadian winter. Come to Victoria for the Easter Weekend. Zero percent chance of snow. Zero percent chance of frost. Greater than 75 percent chance of Sun! Average daily high temperature 10 – 15 degrees C (50-60 degrees F). Spend an extra day golfing or just taking in the sites. Don’t worry, you won’t be too late for the flower season. And Canadian players don’t need a passport to visit this exotic location. This makes the Grand Pacific Open the most fun a Canadian without a passport can have! (US players do not need a passport if traveling by ground or water)
Grand Pacific Open will be a 5 round Swiss with a 3 day or a 2 day option. CFC rated. There is a guaranteed prize fund of more than $1000!

Unrated players only eligible for top section prizes. Section winners can not win multiple section prizes.
The organizing committee has arranged an excellent rate for you at the Hotel Grand Pacific which is also the tournament site. Luxury 5 Star Hotel - $89/night based single or double occupancy. Children under 18 stay free in same room with accompanying adult(s). The hotel is ideally situated on the beautiful inner harbour and includes, free high speed internet, free access to health club and ozonated 25m pool and many other amenities for hotel guests. The special $89 rate is available for rooms until March 6th subject to availablity. Special event rates also available for harbour view and suites. We recommend booking early to avoid disappointment! How to get to Victoria
Ferry There are ferries from Vancouver (Tsawassen) and Seattle (Victoria Clipper) and Port Angeles. The round times will allow easy access for anyone traveling on BC Ferries or the Victoria Clipper. The hotel is a very short walk from the Victoria Clipper Terminal on the Inner Harbour. No Passports required for US or Canadian born travelers arriving by boat or other surface travel from the United States. There is good public transport from the Swartz Bay ferry terminal to downtown (1 bus).
Air Victoria is serviced by Sea Planes direct to Victoria Harbour from Seattle, Vancouver and Richmond. There are direct flights to Victoria International Airport from Vancouver, Seattle, Kelowna, Calgary, and Toronto.

$30 for CFC members $40 for non CFC members is payable to the Victoria Junior Chess Society. Payment is accepted by cheque or money order. Please submit payment with this registration form. V8R 2H6 US players can deduct 15% and send a check in U.S. funds (CFC members $25.50 US non members $34.00 US)
Registration Fee after March 15th
Register by email with information above – pay on site $40 for CFC members and $50 for non CFC members. . Payment is due by 11:30 am April 7th. And can be made between 6:00 and 8:00 pm on April 6th or 10:30 – 11:30 am on April 7th. Registration or payment after 11:30 am on April 7th may result in a 1st round ½ point bye or pot luck pairings at the discretion of the TD.
